March Madness: The Biggest Big
$295.00
DELUXE EDITION*
Who is the biggest Big?
This is March Madness: the hip-hop edition. We found just over one hundred established rappers worldwide using the term “Big” in their rapper name. (Note that was at the time of printing––surely there are more now). Then, as you might have guessed, we measured and ranked by weight these “Big” rappers, however we used financial gain as the scale.
Gathered here in one infographic, and broken down into regional brackets, are all the rappers using the word “Big” in their name and having any kind of public consumer data available (streams, sales, subscribers, listeners, viewers, etc.).
We used information from RIAA and ChartMasters. For those rappers without quantified sales or streams, we used YouTube and The Interwebs at large to calculate a kind of album sales equivalent (mileage may vary; see tabulation criteria).
So after all of this, what did the numbers reveal? Regional winners were: Big B (US West), Big Boy (repping Puerto Rico), Big K.R.I.T. (Dirty South), and Big Sean (for Detroit). Yet, it was no competition, and no surprise, for No-No-No-Notorious: Biggie Smalls is the biggest.
The Notorious B.I.G. reigned supreme with over 26 million in “album sales”. (Note that was at the time of printing––surely there are more now.) Special mention for Big Pun, weighing in at 700 pounds, as physically the biggest.
The big, bold, gold frame is fit for the king and puts the “G” in BIG.

Artwork text:
In the quest for glory in the world of hip-hop, the “Big” appliqué is used to shape and define some of the largest rappers. Not only referencing their physical dimensions, “Big” often speaks to aspirations for their record-sales girth. With that in mind, we set out to regionalize and score rappers who have “Big” in their name, with an eye to a definitive determination of which “Big” is really the biggest according to record sales and streams. Herewith, the bracket and the results.
